Instrumental Music

Beginning Strings:
--
Ms. Harris gives basic instruction on the violin, viola, cello, and bass.

Honors Orchestra:
--Students will perform intermediate and advanced literature on string instruments and be given instruction in music theory and history.

Beginning Band:
--Students receive basic instruction on woodwind and brass instruments.

Middle School Concert Band:
--Ms. Harris teaches the performance of intermediate band literature and music theory and history.

High School Concert Band:
--This course involves the performance of intermediate and advanced band literature and
instruction in music theory and history. Students may participate in chamber music opportunities.

Percussion Ensemble:

--Pupils will learn to play all percussion instruments and will have the chance to play with the band, orchestra, or chamber ensemble.

Vocal Music
--Initially the choir focuses on introducing students to appropriate middle school choral literature, achieving and maintaining a healthy vocal tone, and reading basic rhythm and pitch patterns. Advanced choir continues to evaluate students' achievement of these goals as they participate in MSVMA sponsored choral, solo, and ensemble festivals and the state honors choir.

 

Dance

Beginning Dance:
-- Each student will be introduced to ballet, tap, and jazz dancing and gain awareness of how his/her body moves in both dance and everyday life. Basic choreography will be used to help students create their own dance movements.

Dance Team:
--The course concerns dance as performance. Students will learn choreographed dances and ways to practice them before an audience. Repeated performances will perfect the students' technique.
