--Writer's Craft
Using short stories and poetry as models, this class focuses on basic
grammar and writing techniques. Throughout this process, students, using
the Writer's Workshop format, will read and respond to a variety of narrative
and expository texts.
8th
grade
--Working with Genres
Students will continue to hone their writing skills and be introduced to
the variety of genres in literature.
9th
grade
--American Literature
In this course, students study American literature from both literary
and historical perspectives. In addition, they will learn the connection
between the humanities and science.
10th
grade
--Great Essays
After reading essays by masters of this craft--Alice Walker, Joan Didion,
George Orwell, and Jonathan Swift, students will refine their skills
by writing their own works in this genre.
